Expensive equipment but it does a great job inspecting well problems most companies only guess at. With our new camera we can video log a well acurately with the built in line counter which displays your depth on the screen. The camera has great visability with adjustable light settings. You can either view down hole or view the side wall of the well casing. The viewing screen is non glare so it works great even in the sunshine. Just today we inspected a 4" steel cased well that was 329' deep with a static of 303'. The previous day we were unable to get the pump past 300'. After using Lavals camera we found the weld at 300' had a lot of weld buildup. The previous pump was a Goulds with a skinny liquid end with cable guard same diameter as the motor. We installed a Grundfos Pump and it went down the well fine but would not go below 300'. The well is old enough that no well report on it could be found or was turned into the state. We had no idea how far the 4" steel casing went down. After the inspaection we found the well was cased to 310' and the 4" had 20 perforations in the steel from 260' to 310'. No water was coming in from any perforation above 303'. The casing below 310' was open hole with large caverns and out croppings. At 316' we found a 1" galvanized pipe section in the well. This find is why I'm writing this review. The pipe is not totally blocking the hole but is laying at an angle and stuck in a cavern. This was quite a find and pretty neat to discover. The depth was 329' and had a heap of sediments and we'll scale. My 4 star rating is due to the camera failing to wind the camera cable efficiently back on the reel. Reeling up the cable the cable would wind on one side commonly and cause a backlash. It took twice as long to reel the camera up as it did to watch the camera go down. The engineers really need to figure this problem out. Using it on a deeper well would become a real headache. I wouldn't let the backlash problem stop somebody from buying one but would be aware and not just reel it up without checking the cable on the spool.
